Mary Wetani Agoriwo is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences of the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho.
Education
She graduated in 2010 from University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy and obtained a Master of Science degree in Neurorehabilitation, in 2017, from Brunel University London, United Kingdom.
Work Experience
Ms Mary Wetani Agoriwo practiced physiotherapy at 37 Military Hospital (internship) and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for ten years prior to joining UHAS in 2020. She also served as a guest lecturer (Rehabilitation in Parkinson’s disease), clinical supervisor and examiner to physiotherapy and occupational therapy students of the University of Ghana, Legon. She has expertise in the management of all physiotherapy related conditions but specialised in aged care and neurological conditions with interest in movement disorders, especially, Parkinson’s disease. Mary coordinates the activities of the Parkinson’s disease (PD) Support Group Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization aimed at providing support for people with Parkinson's disease and their caregivers. Currently, she teaches, conducts research and provides outpatient physiotherapy services to people with neurological disorders, mostly, Parkinson’s disease (PD).
Research /Science Output
Her research interest is in Parkinson’s disease, ageing and age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Currently, she is a member of the UK-Ghana Myoton Project, (a collaborative study between the University of Southampton and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital), in charge of the Parkinson’s disease research.
Ms Agoriwo has presented at national and international conferences on rehabilitation in Parkinson’s disease, facilitated numerous workshops on Parkinson’s disease, ageing and neurodegenerative diseases and has been part of the development of COVID-19 rehabilitation Guideline for Ghana and Africa.
