DEAN'S WELCOME MESSAGE
You are warmly welcome to the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS). The mandate of SAHS is to train and develop highly qualified, competent, and confident allied health professionals to meet the nation’s demand through the provision of academic and professional knowledge.
The school supports the mission of the University and is dedicated to community service. We seek to realize the vision of the University by taking modern approaches to research, teaching and engagement with society, informed by a culture of scholarship, academic and service excellence.
As one of the largest Schools in UHAS in terms of programmes offered, we are renowned for our high levels of student satisfaction in both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
We currently run undergraduate programmes in Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography); Medical Laboratory Sciences; Nutrition and Dietetics; Orthotics and Prosthetics; Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences; and Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences (Audiology and Speech and Language Therapy options). We also run postgraduate programmes (MPhil and PhD) in Medical Imaging. Additionally, for the convenience of our working students, we run Sandwich programmes in Diagnostic Imaging, Dietetics, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Orthotics and Prosthetics, as well as Physiotherapy.
Plans are underway to add undergraduate programmes in Health Care Management and Biomedical Instrumentation Management. We also intend to run postgraduate programmes in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as Rehabilitation Sciences, in the near future.
The curricula of our programmes are continually updated to meet the changing needs of society and to equip our students with everything needed to build a successful and satisfying career. Our graduates are always in high demand due to their highly valued skills and ethos.
We are endowed with excellent and skilled academic and professional staff who deliver high quality curricula and programmes and also offer support to students in the areas of research, scholarship, professional practice, and mentorship.
We are located in Ho, the capital of the Volta Region, which has a serene and conducive environment with beautiful, diverse culture and is easily accessible from the national capital. SAHS is uniquely situated within Ho Teaching Hospital, which provides our students with easy access to patients, medical facilities, equipment, and other specialist health professionals in the hospital, to facilitate their training.
