Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences

Physiotherapy is a non-drug therapeutic that employs the use of physical modalities for individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. This includes providing treatment in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, disease, disability or environmental factors. The physical modalities used include laser therapy, infra-red radiation, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, ultrasound and shortwave diathermy.

Our Mission

The Department seeks to produce Physiotherapists with a strong foundation in clinical knowledge and research equipped with clinical and therapeutic skills for evidence-based physiotherapy practice at entry‐level practice within the legal and ethical framework of the profession locally and internationally. Our students are trained to use a holistic approach to patient care and this encompasses physical, psychological, emotional and social well-being of the clients we see.

Our graduates are trained to specialize in orthopaedics, cardiopulmonary, paediatrics, geriatrics, neurologic, orthopaedics, women’s health and sports physiotherapy after their undergraduate program.

Job Prospects

Physiotherapists can work in outpatient clinics, inpatient rehabilitation centres, nursing homes, private homes, education and research centres, schools, hospices, industries, fitness centres and sports clubs.
