Dr. Ahmed Tijani Bawa is a Senior Lecturer of Chemical Pathology at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho.
Education
Dr. Bawah holds a PhD (Chemical Pathology) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, MPhil (Chemical Pathology) and Bachelor of Science (Medical laboratory Science) from the University of Ghana. He obtained a certificate and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Ghana.
Work Experience
Prior to this, he was the Senior Biomedical Scientist in-charge of Ussher Polyclinic in Accra. He is a medical laboratory scientist and a fellow of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists. He practiced as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in various health facilities in the Greater Accra region for almost fifteen (15) years. During this period, he rose from the rank of Technical Officer Grade 2 to Assistant Technologist and later a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist. He resigned from the Ghana Health Service as a Principal Biomedical Laboratory Scientist
Research Interest/Output
Dr. Bawah’s area of research is metabolic complications during pregnancy with emphasis on using biochemical markers in the prediction of obstetric outcome. He has also done some research in diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney diseases.
He has publications on lipid profile of Ghanaian women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus; Hypogonadism in Ghanaian men with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus; and Adipokine dysregulations in Ghanaian women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Preeclampsiam among others. Other publications are on the effect of Tobacco smoking on semen quality and sexual dysfunction in type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity as well as diabetes and chronic diseases among homeless people in Ghana. Dr. Bawah is a data contributor for the Gestational Weight Gain Pooling Project of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in collaboration with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Knowledge interrogation (Ki) team. He currently has 26 publications.
