Napoleon Abiwu, PhD is a Mechanical Engineer and a Lecturer in the Department of Orthotics and Prosthetics, School of Allied and Health Science at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana.
Education
He pursued his Doctor of Philosophy degree at Cranfield University, in the United Kingdom and his first and second degrees at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.
Work Experience
Napoleon Abiwu, PhD has taught for two and a half decades in Tamale Polytechnic/ Tamale Technical University. He has taught several courses in the Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Civil Engineering and Water and sanitation Engineering Departments at both the Higher National Diploma and undergraduate levels including; Mechanics of Fluids, General Thermodynamics, Mechanics of Machines, Instrumentation and Control, Strength of Materials, Renewable Energy Resources, Introduction to Environmental Thermodynamics, Irrigation Engineering and Drainage Engineering.
He has worked in Tamale Polytechnic/Tamale Technical University and served on several Boards and Committees including the Academic Board, School of Engineering Board, Admission Policy Formulation Committee, Executive Committee, Scholarship, Postgraduate and Staff Development Committee, Transport Committee, Development Committee, Students’ Welfare and Development Committee.
He was the National President of the Polytechnic Teachers’ Association of Ghana (POTAG, 2003-2005). He is a Christian and loves preaching Christ.
Science/Research Output
Napoleon Abiwu, PhD has extensively researched and designed a Solar Distillation Plant, a Savonius Wind Turbine, designed and developed a Continuous Press for dewatering Cassava dough, and an Iceless Cooler for vegetable preservation. He has also developed strategies for urban water supply management. He undertakes institutional analysis of water utilities in low income countries and builds capacities of operators and system managers of small town water systems’ operations, maintenance and management. He also undertakes monitoring and evaluation of performance of Urban Water supply system’s operations.
Currently, he is interested in the design and development or fabrication of Orthotic and Prosthetic devices for patients.
