Augustine Appah Acquah is an Assistant lecturer at the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences.
He is a Human Anatomy Educator and a physiotherapist by profession. He pioneered the establishment of the Share care paediatric physiotherapy programme at Osu in Accra which provides free physiotherapy services for less privileged children with cerebral palsy and other neurological conditions. He has done several mobility outreaches and voluntary physiotherapy consultations with Joni and Friends (USA) for persons with disabilities in Accra, Nalerugu, Bindure, Takoradi and Cape Coast.
Educational Background
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Ghana as well as a Master of Philosophy in Anatomy from the same University. He also holds a Single Subject Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM-UK). To his credit are certifications in Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis; Workstation Ergonomics; Physiotherapy Exercise and Physical Activity; and Information Technology.
Work Experience
After his physiotherapy professional training in 2011, he completed a year internship programme at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and proceeded to work with Accra Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic and Share Care Ghana as a physiotherapist. He also taught anatomy, kinesiology, community physiotherapy as well as obstetrics and gynaecology at the Greenhill School of Health Sciences for three semesters.
Research Interest
His research interests are in paediatric with a focus on congenital anomalies, cerebral palsy, as well as children with special needs. He also has interest in vertebral morphometry studies, disc degeneration and herniation. He is currently researching into the effect of occupation on musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory health.
