EMELIA AWUDE

 

emelia awudeMrs. Emelia Awude is a nutritionist and an Assistant Lecturer at the Nutrition and Dietetics Department of the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana.

Education

She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition/Biochemistry and a Master of Philosophy degree in Nutrition, both from the University of Ghana, Legon.

Work Experience

She has been the Programme Facilitator, providing nutrition education training, monitoring and evaluation for primary school teachers under the Nestle Healthy Kids Programme for five (5) years. In the past ten years, her interest in research has led her to be involved in various projects in the areas of nutrition, public health and the social sciences. She was a Field Research Assistant and later the acting Field Supervisor for the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) School Survey on Childhood Obesity in Ghana. She worked as the Field Supervisor for Mapping out HIV-Intervention Services in Greater Accra and studying the vulnerabilities of People Who Injects Drugs (PWID) in Ghana, both of which were carried out by the Department of Population, Family and Reproductive Health, School of Public Health, University of Ghana. She was also a member of the team that assessed and documented the situation of Child Marriage among adolescent girls and young women in Ghana.

Science/Research Output

Mrs. Awude’s research area of interest is family (particularly women and children) feeding behaviour and patterns and their relation to non-communicable diseases, particularly, obesity.
