HUSEINI WIISIBIE ALIDU

Dr Alidu HuseiniDr. Huseini Wiisibie Alidu is a Senior Lecturer in the department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences Ghana. Prior to this appointment he was a Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Laboratory Science at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana. He is a registered Medical Laboratory Scientist and a Consultant Chemical Pathologist. He is also the immediate past president of the UHAS chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). He is currently the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Education

He had his Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and later obtained an MPhil (Chemical Pathology) and PhD (Chemical Pathology) from the same university.

Work Experience

Dr. Alidu worked as a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Ghana Health Service for eight years before becoming a Lecturer at the University for Development Studies. While in Ghana Health Service, he worked as Head of Laboratory in the Nadowli District Hospital in the Upper West Region as well as the Head of the Maamobi General Hospital Laboratory in the Greater Accra Region where he was involved in HIV training activities and also was the laboratory coordinator of some research works.

Research Interest/Output

Dr Huseini Wiisibie Alidu has research interest in the areas of diabetes, HIV, sexual/erectile dysfunction, orgasmic difficulties, obesity, fatty liver disease, as well as the metabolic syndrome. He has about twenty-five (25) publications in peer reviewed journals. Currently he is involved in a number of research works in the area of sexual dysfunction, dietary patterns, metabolic syndrome, inflammation, obesity and the quality of life among diabetics. He has researched and authored several articles in the field of sexual health. Currently he is involved in research works investigating the influence of comorbidities of the metabolic syndrome and fatty liver disease on human sexual health and the possible role of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in the pathogenesis of sexual dysfunction. 

Dr. Alidu is a fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science with specialization in Chemical Pathology and a member of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists.
