JULIANA NYASORDZI

juliana nyasordziDr. Juliana Nyasordzi is a Lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, Ghana.

Education

She obtained a PhD in Nutrition from Paderborn University, Germany. She holds a master’s degree in Nutritional Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, R.H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Quality Sciences, Rehovot, Israel. Her first degree was in BSc. Agricultural Technology from the University for Development Studies, Tamale, Ghana.

Work Experience

Before her current appointment, she was a District Nutrition Officer with the Ghana Health Service, Battor. She was the coordinator for the Nutrition and Malaria Control Programme. She was responsible for promoting maternal and child care practices: timely initiation and exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding and other postnatal care while ensuring children below the ages of 5 years. Postpartum mothers are given vitamin A supplementation, nutrition and health education on adequate dietary intake and diversity.

Science/Research Output

Dr. Nyasordzi’s area of research interest includes nutritional epidemiology related to the relevance of nutrition for maternal and child health. She has worked on the relevance of early life factors to an offspring’s Cardiometabolic health in later life. Other research interests are nutrition and non-communicable and communicable diseases, nutrition and agricultural linkages to promote nutrition and food security, and community nutrition.

She has publications in international peer review journals focusing on nutrition epidemiology etc. She is a member of the Nutrition Society, UK and African Nutrition Society.
