Mr. John Gameli Deku is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho, Ghana. Before his appointment as an Assistant Lecturer, he was a Senior Biomedical Scientist working in Half-Assini Government Hospital in the Jomoro District of the Republic of Ghana. He is a Clinical Microbiologist and a member of Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists and University Teachers Association of Ghana.
Education
He had a Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology from the defunct School of Medical Laboratory Technology and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from University of Ghana, all located in Korle-Bu, Accra, Ghana. He then proceeded to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences and Master of Philosophy in Clinical Microbiology.
Work Experience
He started work as an Intern Technical Officer (Laboratory) at Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in 2005. He was later posted to Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Hospital where he worked as a Technical Officer. In November 2007, he was reposted to Half-Assini Government Hospital. Whilst working in this hospital, Mr. Deku went for his Bachelor of Science Degree and graduated in 2012 and worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist until November 2016. During this period, he was a member of diabetes and hypertension team, hospital procurement team and a medical outreach coordinator. He was also one of the Western Regional Coordinators of Dried Tube Specimen Proficiency Testing for HIV.
Science/Research Interest
His interest is to investigate microbial resistance to available antibiotics.
