Jonathan Annan-Asare is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho. He is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian. He is a founding member of the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (GAND), a member of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) Africa chapter, and a member of the Ghana Dietetic Association (GDA).
Education
Mr. Annan-Asare had his first degree in Nutrition and Biochemistry and a Master of Philosophy in Dietetics at the University of Ghana.
Work Experience
Prior to his appointment at UHAS in December, 2016, he was the Senior Dietitian in the Dietherapy Department at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra-Ghana, where he practised as a Dietician for four years.
During this period, he helped in the training of student dieticians, both undergraduates and postgraduates, from the University of Ghana, and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, in Ghana. He also assisted other health professionals within the hospital with the management of patients (both as in-patients and outpatients) with acute and chronic dietary-related diseases through the usage of food as therapy.
He was the Resident Dietitian at the National Diabetes Management and Research Centre (Diabetes Centre) for two years and also a Resident Dietitian at the Korle Bu Polyclinic for the same period. He occasionally acted as the Head of Dietherapy Department, KBTH, in the absence of the substantive Head. He is currently the Head of Unit (Dietetics) in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, UHAS and also the School of Allied Health Sciences (SAHS) representative on the Library board of the same University.
Science /Research Output
Mr. Annan-Asare’s area of research is in non-communicable diseases, especially obesity and diabetes. He has some publications in peer-reviewed journals, attended a number of seminars, conferences and workshops and also done a number of presentations during those workshops.
