EUNICE BERKO NARTEY

 

euniceb 1491830023Eunice Berko Nartey is a lecturer at the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho, Ghana and the first acting Head of Department (2014 - 2016). She is also a Registered Dietician/Nutritionist.

Education

She is currently pursuing her PhD in Nutrition from University of Ghana where she had her MPhil. and BSc. degrees in Dietetics and Home Science respectively. Eunice also has post graduate certificates from the German Institute of Human Nutrition (Dife, Germany) in Nutritional Epidemiology; and also from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) in Nutrition in a Changing Global Environment.

Work Experience

Mrs. Nartey worked with the Diet therapy units of 37 Military, Ridge and the Princess Marie Louise hospitals in Accra. She also worked with a number of private hospitals and organizations in Accra and Tema including the Sinel Specialist Hospital, Raphal Medical Center, Volta River Authority clinic among others. She worked with the Volta Regional Hospital (Ho), where her interest of teaching was rekindled after teaching undergraduate Dietetics on part-time basis with UHAS. She later joined full time teaching and has been teaching/researching nutrition-related matters. She has facilitated workshops for FANTA, JPIEGO, GDA, among others on relevant nutrition issues and also given nutrition education on local media and platforms.

Science/Research Output

Her key research interest is in translational nutrition. She is currently studying nutritional issues among children with sickle cell disease and malnutrition; especially, using the local food-base and the social structure to create long-term and sustainable solution. She is also part of a research team interested in the relationship between nutrition, disease and the gut microbiome. She is a member of the Ghana Dietetic Association (GDA), Nutrition Society (UK) and the African Nutrition Society. She has also presented scientific papers at a number of seminars and conferences organized both locally and internationally.
