Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences

Studies the normal development of speech, language and hearing, as well as, the understanding and clinical management of disorders of these processes.

The undergraduate program in SLHS prepares students to apply for graduate education in either Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.

Our Core Values

The Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences seeks:

  • To provide students with knowledge and skills in the field of speech-language therapy and audiology in three thematic areas – teaching/research, clinic and community service in accordance with the mission of the university.
  • To ensure that the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences programme is a Faculty-led student-centered programme with development of hands-on problem solving skills based on clinical case studies.

Philosophy of Our Curriculum

The programme seeks to develop and present educational programmes of the highest quality in a student-centered learning environment using a problem-solving, integrated curriculum with a strong community-based experience and service.

The programme is distinguished by its innovative teaching/clinical paradigm, which combines the application of clinical knowledge and skills within a community-based medical educational framework

Aim and Objectives of the Programme

  • Undertaking the diagnoses/assessments of speech, language and hearing disorders in presented clients or patients
  • Identifying organic and functional causes of speech, language and hearing disorders
  • Offering appropriate therapies required for remedying speech, language and hearing disorders or rehabilitating speech-language and hearing disordered clients or patients.
