Education
I had my radiography training at the University of Ghana, and later pursued a Master of Science in Radiography at the School of Health Care Sciences, Cardiff University, Cardiff – United Kingdom (UK) and an MPhil and a PhD in Radiography at the College of Health Sciences, University of Salford, Manchester – UK. I also have a Post-graduate Certificate in Strategic Communication from the Brian Lamb School of Communication, Purdue University, Indiana, USA, and a Certificate in Chinese Language from the Beijing Chinese Language & Culture College, Beijing – China. Finally, I have a Certificate in Bioethics from the Harvard Law School, Harvard University, in the United States of America (USA).
Work Experience
I worked as a full-time diagnostic radiographer at the Greater-Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge, Accra – Ghana and also held several locum roles across several hospitals in the city. I served as the Special Assistant to the Minister of Employment & Social Welfare, Ghana. In this role, I was part of the team that developed and implemented several key policies such as the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) for public workers in Ghana, and the Eradication of Child Labour in Cocoa Cultivation. The SSSS was part of a broader policy to improve the renumeration and pension package for public workers in Ghana, whereas the Eradication of Child Labour in Cocoa Cultivation was a World Bank funded project to eliminate child labour in cocoa farming and ensure that children in these areas get access to quality education. I later become the Special Assistant to Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China. In this role, I was part of the team that helped improve bilateral relations between China and Ghana and resulted in significant improvement in the volume of trade and direct investment from China to Ghana.
In education, I was an International Student Ambassador for the University of Salford, Manchester, UK, where I was part of a team responsible for handling a wide range of academic and non-academic issues affecting international students within the university. Similarly, I was a research assistant for undergraduate radiography students at the University of Salford in Manchester, UK. I am the foundation Head of Department of the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Ho, Ghana and I have been in this role since 2018. I played a monumental role in the establishment of the department and the development of all the necessary documentation for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the department. I have served on several committees and boards within the University.
Teaching
I teach Healthcare Ethics across several programmes and schools in the University. I also teach the following radiography courses; Radiographic Technique, Radiography Research Proposal Writing, Forensic Radiography, Clinical Applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Clinical Applications of Computed Tomography (CT). I provide research supervision to several MPhil and PhD students both within UHAS and external universities. I serve as Adjunct faculty and external examiner for several universities across Africa.
Research Interest
My research interests focus on radiography/radiology education, dose optimisation, digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and mammography. I also have special interest in healthcare ethics and patient and professional safety, and cancer diagnoses and management. On MRI, my research interest centers on technical development and basic and clinical neuroscience applications of MRI for mapping structure and function in the human brain: diffusion MRI and functional MRI (fMRI), including the structural connectome and the functional connectome of the human brain. I have supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate radiography students to completion. Currently I am a reviewer for several radiography/radiology and other health journals. I have several publications in reputable journals. Currently, I am involved in two major active grants;
1. The US$ 1.2 million National Institute of Health (NIH) of the USA funded study to examine the long-term impact of early childhood nutrition on brain and nervous system development, while strengthening the research environment and capacity in Ghana to conduct neurobehavioral and neuroimaging research.
2. The GHC 1.4 million (US$ 120,000) from the Ghana Skills Development Fund for the establishment of a Medical Imaging Simulation Lab for the Department of Medical Imaging, UHAS.
