Dr. Jones Gyamfi is a Lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Health and Allied Health Sciences, Ho.
He is an experienced cancer biologist and lecturer with several years’ experience in teaching and cancer biology research. His research interests are molecular mechanism of tumour progression, tumour microenvironment and molecular diagnostics methods. He is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).
Education
Dr. Gyamfi has a PhD in Pharmacy (Major: Cancer biology) from Yonsei University, South Korea. He has a Master of Science degree (one year) in Molecular Medical Biology and a Master of Science in Medical Science with specialization in Human genetics from Orebro University, Sweden. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
Work Experience
Prior to his appointment at University of Health and Allied Sciences, Dr. Gyamfi worked as a Lecturer at Radford University College, Accra-Ghana. He has previously worked as a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist at Airport Clinic Limited and as a cancer research scientist at the Orebro University hospital.
Science/Research Output
His primary research interest is in understanding the molecular mechanisms governing cancer metastasis and the identification of potential molecular targets for therapy. He is also interested in cancer genomic studies. His current research involves understanding how the breast cancer microenvironment (specifically adipocytes) contributes to breast cancer metastasis and therapeutic resistance. He is also involved in several studies focused on developing molecular diagnostic method for various diseases.
